Those of us who love popular culture and enjoy having our own home, want to make the world participate in our hobbies, and our home is also a reflection of that. Here are some geeky ideas for decorating your home. You’re welcome!
Leaving evidence of your hobbies is a healthy thing to do. It is an act that reaffirms us in what we like and that identifies us in front of our peers or people who are totally opposite to us.
When you’re young, you do it by wearing T-shirts of your favourite bands, comic book heroes or those films and series you love. It’s also quite common to show your love of music, but as you grow up and get a home of your own, it’s quite common to want to turn your home into the home extensions of your geekiness. It happens to me and if you’re here, it’s because it happens to you too and you’re looking for inspiration, so, with this post, I offer you some ideas to give your home that geeky touch you need. Take note!
Until some time ago, vinyls seemed to be a resource for posters and shops, but thanks to the emergence of personalised wall sticker in several internet shops, these “stickers” have become perfect complements for the home, whether you are a geek or not.
There are examples to bore us, but leaving aside the typical wall stickers, I propose you these examples of wall stickers for fridges and bath screens, awesome!
Freaky stickers for fridges, for switches and for bathrooms
Posters and illustrations
Posters and lithographs are the geeky version of paintings in our homes. You can’t call yourself a fan of something if you don’t have a poster of it in your house, and if you like movies, you should have at least a couple of framed posters of your favourite films.
Of course, they are not the only option, but as a general rule, they are cheaper than illustrations or lithographs which, when framed properly, add distinction and coolness to any home.
Figures
If our mothers enjoyed putting porcelain kittens or ladies showing off period costumes with umbrellas, we geeks do it with figures of our idols.
Whether they are pop figures or reproductions that cost a fortune, these kinds of “ornaments” distinguish us both for their price and their variety.
If you don’t want everyone who enters your house to know that you’re a bit of a geek, you can always choose to buy kitchen accessories “customised” with icons from your favourite video games, series or films, such as toasters, glasses, trays or ice buckets.
Without a doubt, putting ice cubes in the shape of the Space Invaders Martians, the Tetris tiles or the Death Star will earn you points on the geek ladder and they go great with the Han Solo vinyl for the fridge that I’ve shown you above! XD
Carpets
Spending money on a geeky entrance mat is a risky thing to do. If you have geeky neighbours it might disappear, but if you still want to risk it, you should know that there are also bath mats with cool and geeky designs like the ones you see in the pictures below.
Artificial Trees
Artificial trees can be a great addition to any home, and there are many different styles and sizes to choose from. Whether you prefer a traditional evergreen tree or something more unique, there is an artificial tree that will suit your needs.
One of the biggest benefits of artificial trees is their realism. Many artificial trees are made from high-quality materials that look very similar to real trees. This means that they can easily blend in with your existing décor and add a touch of nature to your home without looking out of place.
Another great benefit of artificial trees is that they are very easy to care for. Unlike real trees, which require regular watering and pruning, artificial trees only need to be dusted and occasionally cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. This makes them the perfect choice for busy families or anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of time caring for a real tree.
Curtains
I’m sure you remember the shower curtain in Leonard and Sheldon’s house from The Big Bang Theory. Without a doubt, it was just one more example of all the cool things that can be found in a geeky home, but it also revealed a world of possibilities when it comes to geeky shower curtains.
I’ve seen Nightwing (Batman’s former sidekick), Minions and even some pretty gore and gory finishes, and they’re all 3,000 times cooler!
As for window curtains, things are a bit more limited, but there are also possibilities and if you’re not handy when it comes to sewing, you can make your own geeky curtains with fabric you find on the net or opt for “blinds”, a type of curtain that seems to have made it easier for the geekiest designers.
