How to Select a Motherboard for PC

by Cherie McCord

Motherboard is the most essential component of a PC that connects all other components to one another, and it decides what are the updates that are compatible with your PC according to the specifications of your PC. It also takes care of the safety precautions such as over charging, overheating and static shock. Whether you want to buy a new PC or you just wanted to upgrade for better experience after selecting your desired PC you need to keep in in mind the importance of motherboard for PC . In this guide by Gaming Silk you will get to know everything about motherboards.

What is Motherboard

A motherboard is like backbone of your PC that is a printed circuit board .It allows various types of components to communicate with each other such as Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) , RAM or Storage. You can also read GPUs, Rams, and motherboards guides on beembuilds.

A motherboard seems to be very complicated in it’s looks because of many things like transistors , resistors , connectors and slots etc. .

Major things should be thought

There e are certain things you just need to follow if you want a better and good quality motherboard for your PC whether you are a graphic designer or a gamer . Just try our guide to buy or select a good Motherboard for your PC  .

  1. Company

The first thing you have to decide when building your PC is which CPU you want serve as the brains of your machine. A central processing unit (CPU) is basically the computer’s brain and controls essential computing functions by interpreting and executing instructions contained in programs.

CPUs from Intel and AMD, makers of the most popular PC processors, are fast, powerful, efficient for their size and inexpensive. The two companies’ main CPU lines, Core i3/5/7 and Athlon II/Phenom II offer several options at a variety of price points.

  1. Form Factor

In the market there is a bunch of motherboards but the thing that matters is that you should buy one motherboards which match with requirements of your PC .Begin by selecting a Motherboard according to its Form Factor. Different Motherboards have different sizes .

For example, ATX, EPS, and Micro ATX. Each has specific max wattage limits for RAM and CPU cooling support. Some Motherboards are built for certain socket types; make sure the CPU you choose will fit within the socket type of your Motherboard.

  1. Processor Socket

There are two things you need to know before selecting a motherboard. The first thing is the socket of the motherboard, which is usually a set of pins on the board that the processor will fit into. If you have an AMD processor and get an Intel motherboard your computer wouldn’t work.

There are also a number of different sockets, but for this example let’s look at a LGA 775 and an AMD 838 pin. These two boards are not compatible with the same parts so make sure to check before you purchase your parts. The second thing to look at when buying a motherboard is how many PCI Express x16 slots it has.

A PCI Express x16 slot is the video card slot and they come in 2 or 4 (or sometimes more) varieties. For example, my board only has two PCI Express slots while another might have four video card slots or they could switch it up and put two slots in one and three in another.

The reason that you want to look at how many video card slots it has is because if you have multiple video cards then only 1 will be able to work at any given time because most computers cannot support multiple cards using the same slot.

  1. SATA

When considering buying a motherboard it is important to know how many SATA ports you will need. There is a function of SATA , it helps you to connect a single device.

It is in your hand whether you connect a hard drive or optical drive . If you need to connect multiple devices you’ll want to make sure there are enough SATA ports for all of these devices.

  1. PCI Slots

Some of the motherboards have traditional types of PCI slots used as they are thought to be reliable . Actually peripheral component interconnect or PCI is like a connection or a port that is located on the motherboard .The size of the PCI system slot is normally 132mm by 64mm, but different sizes may also be used, such as mini PCI slots that have a smaller 62mm by 32mm length.
