Most homeowners would prefer to say no if we asked a question about who likes cleaning blinds and shades. The reasons are obvious. Cleaning them is time-consuming and tiring too. Our cleaning professionals have come up with very easy DIY tips and tricks to ensure that window coverings remain shining and enjoy a longer life.
Cleaning Blinds
Faux Wood Blinds
They are easy to care for and require minimal maintenance. A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush treatment can make your blinds look sparkling clean and shiny. Close the blinds and gently clean the dirty blinds with the vacuum cleaner. If there are any hard, stubborn stains, take a damp cloth and wipe off the dirt. Make sure you clean both sides and then leave them in the open to dry completely before hanging them
Real Wood Blind
Close the blinds first and then gently wipe off the dust from each slat from top to bottom with the help of a soft cloth or soft brush. Once done, take a wet cloth and wipe down each slat gently. Ensure you are not using too much water, which can damage the wood. When you finish, open the blinds again to ensure they are entirely dry before closing them again.
Cleaning Shades
Roman / Roller Shades
Take a soft cloth or feather duster and remove any accumulated dust or dirt. We recommend using a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment for hard stains. You can use mild detergent and warm water if the stains still don’t disappear. Use a sponge, dab the solution onto the fabric, and then rinse with water. Make sure you use little water only. Then blot the cleaned area with a dry towel.
Honeycomb or Cellular Shades
The cleaning method for cellular shades remains the same as above; however, as they are a bit more delicate, avoid getting them too wet during spot cleaning.
Cleaning Shutters
Composite Wood Shutters
Dusting the shutters with a soft cloth or feather duster is generally enough to keep them clean and shining. However, if you notice any stubborn stains, use mild soap and water solution and gently wipe down the shutters with clean water. Keep them open till they dry completely.
Hardwood Shutters
The process again remains the same as composite wood shutters. However, using too much water can lead to warping and cause damage to the slat.
