5 Signs You May Have A Pest Problem

5 Signs You May Have A Pest Problem

by Cherie McCord

Pests most commonly find their way into your home in the autumn. This is when the temperature starts to drop outside and they want to find shelter for the winter. When choosing shelter they prefer a place with food and water. Your home has both, making it an inviting opportunity.

Of course, you don’t want pests in your home. They can cause damage to your property and they are also capable of carrying an array of diseases.

That’s why you need to be aware of the signs that you have a pest problem and then take prompt action. It’s advisable to click here and get ahold of your local specialist as quickly as possible. The sooner they deal with it for you the lower the risk to you and your home.

  1. Pest Sighting

The most obvious sign that you have a pest problem is when you see one. The pest you see may be the only one in your home. However, this is usually the case when you have pets that have brought a pest in and then let it go.

In most cases, one pest means that there are more, especially bed bugs. Bed bugs can spread viruses and multiply quickly. Also, an infestation can be hard to eliminate. So, if you see a bed bug, assume there are more and contact a pest control company.

  1. Droppings

Pests generally head to your waste bins and food cupboards. You may not see them going there but there will be signs of their visit. This is most likely to be chewed packaging and droppings from the pest.

Again, seeing these means you have a pest problem and need to take action. You can temporarily help by cleaning all the cupboards and placing all food items, especially those in open packets, in sealed containers.

  1. Damage

Pests cause damage to your home. The only question is how much damage and what type. This will depend on the type of pest you are dealing with. But, you can look out for chewed cables and damage to soft furnishings. This suggests rodents. Softwood, the type you can easily sink a screwdriver into, suggests termites.

Any damage found warrants a call to the specialists to get your home inspected.

  1. Aromas

Most pests create an aroma. This could be from their droppings or the smell of the pest itself. It could even be a damp smell which tells you there is a water leak and the potential for a pest nest.

If you detect unusual aromas you’ll want to investigate further to find out the source and then have the experts deal with it.

  1. Tracks

Not all pests leave trails that you’ll be able to see. But, some do. For example, rodents tend to stay close to walls. That means the bottom part of the wall will start to look dirty and there will be traces of fur.

Or, termites can fly when they leave the nest to mate.? As soon as they land to set up a new home they lose their wings. A pile of wings in the corner of your room tells you termites are likely to be nearby.
