The 2021/22 premier league season is set to kick off on the 14th of August, 2021. Contested by 20 different teams, the premier league has come to be popularly held by many as the most competitive league in the world. This is so especially because there are at least about 6 different football clubs who have posed to win the league trophy over time. They include: Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. Teams like Arsenal and Tottenham have however lost their competitive footings in recent times. This in turn has given rise to teams like Leicester (famously known to have won the league in the 2015/2016 season).
Others include Aston Villa, Wolvehampton, West ham United, and a couple of other mid-table teams notorious for causing upsets for the “big clubs.” The League draws the highest global television audience than any other football league. Premier League Favorites
Manchester City secured a seventh Premier League title under Pep Guardiola’s guidance in the COVID-19 ridden 2020/2021 season. They however face stiff competition in the 2021/2022 season as they look forward to defending their crown. The Citizens bagged their third PL title in four seasons in 2020/21, winning the league with a 12 point margin, with teams like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea following behind respectively.
Pep Guardiola is however still bent on improving his already-impressive squad heading into the new season after signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. Tottenham’s Harry Kane is also on the club’s radar.
City is heavy favorites once again, and clinching the premier league trophy in the 2021/2022 season will mean they will have won the trophy four times in the last five years.
Teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool will also be aiming at the possibility of clinching the trophy despite their not too encouraging outing last season. They however finished second, third, and fourth respectively, setting themselves up for Champions league spots.
Ole Solskjaer-led Manchester United signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, and are also close to landing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. They are also looking forward to landing Kieran Trippier to bolster their squad and premier league ambitions.
Chelsea will be looking forward to replicating their Champions league success in the league. The Tuchel-led team is about to sign their former striker from Inter Milan, Romani Lukaku to strengthen their chances of winning the coveted league cup.

Arsenal have however been rebuilding and have completed recent signings of Ben White from Brighton, Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht and Nuno Tavares from Benfica. Led by Arteta, the team still looks to add a couple of players to strengthen the squad and put them in contention for the trophy. They will be opening the league when they slug it out with Brentford on the 14th of August 2021.
Tottenham Hotspur are at the brink of losing their famous marksman, Harry Kane to Manchester City. However, they are looking forward to signing Lautauro Martinez from Inter Milan. They just also recently concluded a loan deal for Cristian Romero from Atlanta. The club alongside their newly appointed manager, Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking forward to at least setting up a champion’s league spot this season.
The Upsetters
Leicester City narrowly missed out on a Champions league spot last season. Since their shocking premier league trophy triumph in the 2015/2016 season, they have frequently upset the “big clubs.” They piped Chelsea to the FA Cup trophy last season and defeated Manchester City to secure the community shield ahead of the new season. The team has also added some new players like Patson Daka from RB Salzburg, Boubakary Soumare from Lille, and Ryan Bertrand on a free transfer from Southampton. They will look forward to causing more upsets and at least return to the UEFA Champions league.
Aston Villa was adventurous last season even though they finished lower than many would have anticipated. Their recent signings however are exciting and they seem well-positioned for the new season. Emiliano Buendia from Norwich, Danny Ings from Southampton and Leon Bailey from Bayern Leverkusen are some of Villa’s new signings to bolster the team.

Brentford, Norwich and Watford replaced the relegated West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, and Sheffield United. Norwich and Watford are returning to the top flight league after a year’s absence, but Brentford’s, a rather longer absence of seventy-four years.
