A First Aid Kit

To be prepared in case of an emergency, a first aid kit is a must. The items inside should include things like bandages, gauze pads, and antiseptic wipes. Don’t forget painkillers and fever reducers.

To keep your family safe, it’s also important to have things like non-latex gloves, or disposable masks and eyewear on hand. Add over-the-counter medicine that corresponds with members of your family’s needs, as well as a homemade remedy or two that you know works for minor injuries.

Over the Counter Medications

Tylenol – In case of a headache, fever, and more, you should always have acetaminophen on hand. Tylenol is better than aspirin as it is less likely to cause stomach upset or irritation. If you’re experiencing chronic pain or discomfort due to an injury, then ibuprofen may be better suited for you.

Motrin/Ibuprofen – Taking these medications regularly can prevent headaches and other aches that come with everyday life such as arthritis, period cramps, menstrual cramps, and backaches.

Roll of Tape/ Bandages

One of the most important medical supplies you’ll need is a roll of adhesive tape or small bandages. Even if your stitches heal up on their own, it’s best to keep a supply on hand in case they open up again.

You might even want to store adhesive tape in your freezer so that it stays pliable and can be used as an ice pack or cool compress. Tape should be stored away from heat, sunlight, dampness, and oil products.

A Thermometer

One of the most common ways to measure temperature is by using a thermometer. These devices measure body heat through contact with the skin and display a temperature reading on a digital display, usually on the front of the device.

There are many different types of thermometers with varying levels of accuracy and some even come with additional functions like being able to detect airborne viruses like influenza or showing variations in human emotion through changes in body temperature.

It’s very important to use these devices correctly though since incorrectly placed thermometers can give inaccurate readings or even worse injure someone by contacting their eyes or other sensitive areas without their knowledge.

Antibacterial Wipes/Germ Killers

Antibacterial wipes and germ killers help kill germs, viruses, and bacteria that cause illnesses. They’re also great to have around when you’re fighting a sickness as they are more effective than most soap/hand sanitizer against many common bugs.

Make sure you buy at least one large container (the container should be in a closed container) of disinfectant spray that contains at least 60% alcohol or some type of chlorine bleach. And don’t forget to keep these products out of reach of children!

Epipen (For Allergy Sufferers Only)

An Epipen is a quick, easy way to address serious allergic reactions. The epinephrine it contains is a temporary solution that can stabilize symptoms and help your body break down allergens. Since some people may have severe reactions to allergies, an EpiPen should be stocked in every home.

This drug can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy without a prescription or you can buy easily from any online pharmacy. A person does not need to worry about expiration dates with this medication as it will typically last three years but always refer to the label for instructions before use.

Pain Relievers (Aspirin, Tylenol, Etc.)

Supplements that fight inflammation and help alleviate pain are critical to have on hand. Aspirin and Tylenol may be the most common, but many over-the-counter supplements can be useful, such as Advil or Aleve. Plus, consider carrying hard candies like Mary Janes or hard peppermints to combat pain.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Medical supplies for your home are not always the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking about medical supplies. Though you must keep some basic medical supplies stocked for emergencies to be prepared for life’s surprises. One of these items should be hydrogen peroxide, which is a simple and effective way to clean wounds and kill bacteria.

Baking Soda & Vinegar in Squirt Bottles

Keeping a first aid kit in your home is essential and provides you with the ability to treat injuries before they get worse. A good kit will contain:

Cotton swabs/pads, aspirin, antibiotic hydro gel ointment, adhesive bandages, cotton balls, alcohol pads/swabs, cold packs, and paper tape.

You should also keep track of all allergies that are present in your household so that you can recognize any side effects. However, many medical supplies expire after a certain amount of time so it’s important to know how to use them before their expiration date.

Prescription Medications

Doctors typically will prescribe medications based on the patient’s medical history, symptoms, and lifestyle. These medications can be lifesaving when taken correctly. Different medicines are often used to treat different conditions or provide relief from different symptoms.

It is important to always take these medications as prescribed, even if you feel better. The majority of these prescriptions are safe and effective when taken as directed. However, some can have serious side effects when they are misused.

Discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor before taking any prescription medication, including how often to take it, what other medications interact with it, or how much medicine should be taken at a time.

Hand Sanitizer (Must Contain Alcohol!)

Hand sanitizers are great because they are completely portable and take up minimal space. These little packs of liquid can do a lot to prevent the spread of germs in your home! Alcohol is the best type of sanitizer to have on hand at all times because it kills both bacteria and viruses quickly. Plus, hand sanitizers don’t dry out your skin or leave behind residue!

Ice/Heat packs

Ensure your home is stocked with essential supplies that will make minor injuries easier to treat: Heat or cold packs are available in both reusable and disposable form. They can be placed on sore muscles, as well as over minor burns or scrapes to help relieve pain and decrease swelling.

An ice pack also works well for cooling a high fever when combined with fluids such as water or sports drinks, which will reduce dehydration. Disposable hand sanitizer should be used after exposure to dirt, other people or animals, or any instance where the individual’s hands come into contact with an unclean surface.

Conclusion

The supplies you need depend on your specific health needs and your lifestyle choices. Regardless of your needs, there are basic items that every home should have.
