How To Stay Fit While On The Job

Staying active helps keep your weight down and your heart healthy. You can stay fit while on the job by taking part in a sport or fitness class, joining an office fitness program, or even brushing up on your tennis skills

If you’re looking for a new challenge, try volunteering for a hospital organization that will help get more people active. This will allow you to make new friends and show other staff how much you can be relied upon.

Active Hospital Roles

No matter what role you play in a hospital setting, there is always a chance to stay fit. Here are a few of the best jobs for fitness enthusiasts who want to work in a hospital setting.

A Role In Nursing

Nursing has to be one of the most active roles in a hospital setting, and most nurses say they would recommend nursing as a career.

As a nurse, you will be on your feet all day, withstanding a fair share of overnight shifts. Nursing is an active role that will keep you moving and give you the chance to learn more about health and wellness.

There are lots of different specialisms within nursing, too. From midwifery to family nursing, and each one has its own career paths and specific courses, such as the DNP FNP program for Family Nurse Practitioners.

A Hospital Porter

Hospital porters work with cleaning staff to ensure that every ward is maintained to a high standard. Hospital porters also have to assist patients, move equipment around to where it is required, and provide support when needed.

As a hospital porter, you will have lots of opportunities to help out. A role in hospital portering can be hard work but rewarding and has lots of options for growth within the industry.

You could even start your own business or own a cleaning company if you are successful!

Housekeeper

Along with the roles above, the housekeeping staff is also an important asset in a hospital setting.

A housekeeper will ensure that the rooms and floors of each ward are cleaned regularly. Staff need to make sure that the wards are well maintained because they are responsible for patient health and wellbeing and can help prevent cross-infection between patients and hospital areas.

A Restaurant Assistant

On top of serving food, restaurant assistants must be very busy throughout their shift in a hospital setting.

They have to take orders as quickly as possible and manage all aspects of their team, including; food delivery and ordering, customer service, taking notes and organizing their team members, etc.

While not all restaurants are hospital restaurants, it’s important to be able to work well with people if you want to work in one. The hospital setting is a high-pressure and stressful environment.

Nursing Assistant

This role requires lots of manual labor and versatility, so it’s perfect for those who enjoy working with their hands and want to keep fit.

Nursing assistants are responsible for aiding patients during their treatment and offer help where needed, whether that’s giving medication, cleaning patients, or folding laundry.

They also manage their team, including requesting additional resources as needed for large numbers of patients and managing the bathrooms or rooms where they are providing care.

Domestic Assistants

While there may be fewer domestic assistants than some of the other roles mentioned, this role is essential to keeping hospitals clean.

Domestic assistants are responsible for cleaning and maintenance of equipment for patient care, such as maintaining equipment and organizing supplies.

Domestic assistants can also provide advice on health issues related to the environment around the hospital, including sanitation and pest control. This role is a hardworking one that requires lots of time, patience, and labor.

An Activities Coordinator

This is a great job for those who love working with people. In this active role, you will be tasked with organizing activities for patients in hospitals, such as physical therapy or entertainment like movies or music.

This is the perfect role for people who like to work with people and who like to keep fit on the side as well. It’s also a great job for people who don’t mind working with young children or the elderly.

Chef

Another very active role is that of a chef or cook in a hospital setting. You will spend most of your shift on your feet and busy at work preparing food for patients, often under high pressure or under strict time constraints and adhering to strict food hygiene rules.

This job is all about the action, so if you love to move around and keep fit, this could be perfect for you.

Security

In a hospital setting, security plays a vital role for those who keep the environment safe for patients. You will be responsible for maintaining safety and order throughout the hospital and ensuring that all staff members are operating within their roles.

There are always lots of people in a hospital environment, so it’s important to be on your toes and alert at all times.

Security workers also have to keep an eye out for any antisocial behavior or suspicious activity, such as theft or illicit drugs on the premises. They are often responsible for patrolling hospitals’ property, such as checking that door locks are secure and making sure no hazardous materials have entered.
