Burnout is a real problem that many people suffer from, especially those who work more responsible jobs. For some, it might seem like burnout is just feeling too tired from work, but it’s a serious health issue that needs to be treated immediately. So, if you’re coming back from burnout, here are some tips that will help you break the cycle of stress, anxiety, and distraction.

This is the first step toward setting boundaries that will help remain calmer and more stress-free. Communicating the issues with your superiors is important as it allows you to stand your ground and explain your situation to those who matter at work. Burnout actually changes your brain, meaning it gets more difficult to block distractions. That’s why being honest and open about your difficulties can help you break the destructive cycle that has negative impacts on your mental and physical health.

Listen to your body and schedule the work accordingly

Your body always keeps the score, so you should be mindful and give yourself the break when you need it. Every person’s body has natural ebbs and flows of energy, that’s called circadian rhythm, a 24-hour internal clock that cycles between alertness and tiredness. So if you’re someone who’s, as the majority of people, feel productive in the morning, then that’s the time to work. That includes doing most of the work, including calls, meetings, and emails.

Allow yourself to rest

A lot of ambitious and hard-working people tend to feel guilty whenever taking some rest. This is also one of the symptoms that often lead to burnout, so if you’re feeling bad for taking a break, then it’s time to deal with this issue before things become too much. Therefore, feel free to create a schedule that will allow you to relax and rest on a regular basis. Your rest can be taking a short nap, meditating, or reading a book of your choice. Basically, anything that helps you recharge your batteries counts as rest.

Sometimes, using some extra help can be a great way to become more productive without straining yourself. Move your body whenever you can

Regular exercise (and any type of physical activity), can help you feel more aligned with yourself. Working out is also great for your mental health, so if you’re too busy at work, then find ways to move your body in a kind and mindful way. Some yoga or light stretching can go a long way. Also, if going to the gym isn’t an option, then taking a walk around your neighborhood is a great way to move for a bit and get those productive juices flowing.

Talk to a mental health professional

Since burnout is so connected to your mental health, it’s important to give yourself a break, and find a reliable, licensed mental health professional to talk to. If therapy is an option, then go to a workspace or it, as you can benefit immensely from talking to someone about your issues. Many people who’ve experienced burnout haven’t been able to discuss their mental health issues, so don’t let that happen to you.

If you’ve experienced burnout, then it’s crucial to take some time and heal properly. These tips will help you come back, but keep in mind that as long as you communicate at work, take a rest and treat yourself kindly, you will be able to feel happy, productive, and balanced at all times.
