3 Common Myths About Going Vegan

3 Common Myths About Going Vegan

by Cherie McCord

Going vegan is something a lot of people contemplate, but not everyone is truly ready to commit to. Giving up meat forever can seem scary for a lot of people, and many assume that their choices of food will be heavily restricted because of their decision. While it is true that going vegan is not easy for everyone, you should know that you can still enjoy your life as a vegan. You may even appreciate it more thanks to the health benefits that come with this lifestyle. However, your opinions on going vegan shouldn’t be based on hearsay. Let’s take a look at some of the myths of going vegan.

Vegan Restaurant Options Are Limited

If you like eating out a lot, you may be asking yourself where you’re going to eat now that you’re vegan. You might’ve had a few go-to restaurants but are scared that you won’t be able to find good alternatives on the vegan side. You should know that veganism as a lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular which has increased the demand for vegan restaurants, and restaurateurs have been responding to the demand. Not only do most fast-food chains offer great vegan menu items, but you have vegan fast food national chains and restaurants that make vegan food that is largely indistinguishable from what you’d find at your local pub or sports bar.

If that’s your style and you’re looking for a vegan restaurant near me, check out Native Foods. There are also fine dining vegan restaurants that offer an experience that rivals some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in the world, so don’t think you’ll be limited in your options unless you live in a really small town.

It’s Expensive

This one is a little bit tricky because a lot of vegans rely heavily on prepared and prepackaged foods and those are more expensive no matter the type. But taking meat out of your grocery list will overall make grocery shopping much cheaper if you make good choices. Things like whole grains, fruit, legumes, and veggies are all very affordable and should be the foundation of any vegan diet, so you should expect to save money in the long run.

Becoming Vegan is too Difficult

Don’t get discouraged by the idea that you’ll have to scratch certain foods off of your list. It might get challenging, but once you know where to go to get the stuff you need and which restaurants to go to and avoid, turning vegan becomes much easier. It can also become fun as you start exploring options and dishes you never tried or even know existed. After a while, your life will feel normal, and your pantry and fridge will be full of easy-to-reach vegan options.

These are all things you have to get out of your head if you want to make the switch to a vegan lifestyle. It does come with challenges, but none that you or the people before you can’t get over, so don’t let them stop you.
