Rockstar Games released GTA V in September 2013. Needless to say, we loved it. We were, in fact, addicted. GTA V has everything that you would want in an open-world game. Add in a couple of mods and it would literally become the best open-world game you’ve ever played.
However, it has almost been 9 years. The least Rockstar Games could do for us is to release the sequel. WE WANT GTA 6! Luckily, it has been confirmed by Rockstar Games that GTA 6 is in the works and will be released soon. Rockstar has acknowledged that GTA 6 will set a creative benchmark, and it will be the “best it can possibly be.”
We are excited, and we have a lot of questions. Luckily, some of these things got out on the internet from one source or another. And we collected all of that for you in this article.

GTA 6 Map
There have been rumors about GTA 6 location spots. There were also some GTA 6 map leaks, but we aren’t sure if those are legit. The rumors state that GTA 6 might head back to Vice City. Some say that it will be set entirely across the US. We are not ruling anything out.
In June 2021, a rumor that penetrated the GTA world suggested that GTA 6 will be set in a modern-day Vice City. This rumor was later confirmed by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.
In March 2021, a “video game leaker” with an impressive track record revealed in a Twitter reply to someone that GTA 6 “is not set in the 1980s and is modern.”
The image of the house that supposedly appeared on the Remastered Edition of GTA San Andreas was rumored to be a teaser for GTA 6, but it was later confirmed by someone that the house is, in fact, from GTA 6.
A Reddit User, in 2020, leaked that the game will be set in different countries across the globe, including a fictional city in Brazil and Vice City in the US. He also revealed that the plot and the missions would be heavily based on the Netflix show Narcos.
Since the rumors are pretty far-reaching right now, we should reflect more on history.

If GTA 6 is to return to any of the previous cities, it is most likely to return to Vice City and Liberty City. There is very little chance of them returning to San Andreas.
GTA 6 Characters
GTA 6 is going to be the first game of its franchise to include the first-ever female playable protagonist in years – that we know for sure. According to the report by Bloomberg, a Latina woman is going to be the game’s first-ever playable woman protagonist in decades. Reportedly, she would be one of 2 playable characters in the game.
Rockstar Games has been on the receiving end of a lot of backlashes. Several employees (ex and current) have raised the issue of the gender pay gap. Even GTA’s franchise has always been an all-male world mostly. The inclusion of a female protagonist can be Rockstar’s attempt at clearing their image and adapting to the shift of the culture.
GTA has made so far 16 titles (including the expansion packs), and only 2 of these titles (the first two) had playable female characters. It means that when the franchise was becoming plot-wise and graphically better, playable female characters were left behind. But GTA 6 is going to be a step in the right direction. We are going to see a playable duo of male and female characters. The names of these characters are unknown as of yet.
GTA 6 Reddit Theories About Plot
The GTA franchise has always been known for its amazing plots and storylines that consist of love, money, crime, mafia, betrayals, friendships, gang wars, and whatnot.
Although there have been no updates about the plot of GTA 6, rumors and leaks so far have been really exciting.
In 2020, a Reddit leak suggested that the game would be set in the 70s-80s (a theory which was later overthrown by a more solid source) and would feature a single male protagonist called Ricardo, a wanna-be drug lord (another theory that was later overthrown). The theory further stated that the protagonist will start off the game doing small-time cocaine smuggling missions from Vice City to large South American areas before coming in contact with bigger drug lords. The story likely encompasses multiple locations.
Allegedly, Martin Madrazo and his father will make an appearance in the game, and you will do missions for him. The Reddit user said that the story is also likely to target topics like HIV and the immigration crisis.
However, the latest leaks on Reddit, from June 2021 state that the story is set in a modern-day Vice City and features at least 2 playable protagonists, including a tech-savvy Latina woman. The game’s map allegedly will change over time, growing as the game advances. Almost all of these claims have been confirmed by Schrier.
GTA 6 Release Date
Rockstar announced GTA 6 in October 2018, right after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released. Considering the date of announcement and historical delays, the game should’ve been released in August 2020. But that didn’t happen. On the other hand, we also got to know from Rockstar that the game would be nothing like we have ever seen before, and that, fairly, can take a lot of time to come out.
It was February 2022 when Rockstar announced that it was working on the game, which makes it difficult to predict any release window. However, the release window of 2025 was corroborated by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.
