It’s not easy to tell what’s going on in a person’s mind or deep in their heart. A person’s inner state could be bleeding, but if you look at outward appearance, they will look okay. There are different ways to express your inner state, but the best way is through writing.
Essays can be written for different purposes. Most about me essays are written by individuals who want to speak out their hearts on paper and pen. Psychologists advise speaking out, or writing solves the problem by half. Here are different ways an essay can express your inner state.
Use of words
Choice of words can play a role in expressing the inner state of a writer. People can control their facial expressions and make them look positive. However, it can be hard to control your voice. The words of a writer express their voice. If the reader listens to the words, they will be listening to the writer’s voice.
An essay writer first organizes the thoughts into ideas. They expound their thoughts into texts as they create the essay. For example, a writer could use words like discouraged, frustrated, angry, or irritated. These words show what could be going on in their heart and mind.
The essay writer might be going through challenges that haven’t healed yet. They could be depressed, stressed, or frustrated by life, people, or themselves. It is easy for the reader to know the writer’s inner state. Another essay writer can use the words cheerful, calmness, ecstasy, or blissful. The words show the writer is happy, satisfied, or generally comfortable with their situation.
Telling a story about what happened
An essay writer might be writing about themselves. The topic choice could vary depending on the assignment they have been given. Sticking to the essay structure, they may write to their audience about their personal experience.
The writer narrates how the situation began and the chronological flow of events. A lot of essay writers have used this essay writing technique as a way to express their inner state. The essay could be emotional because the writer can go beyond the essay writing rules. The essay writer must follow the guidelines and state only what is important.
Writing tone is the language an essay writer uses to address their audience. It is what the writer uses to connect themselves with the reader. It helps the reader to understand the essay writer’s perspective. This way, the reader engages with the message and may likely take action.
The tone of an essay portrays the feelings of the writer. It portrays whether they are joyous, sad, optimistic, threatened, or full of humor. Tone will tell the mood the writer was in when they were writing.
Sometimes an essay writer can have a consistent tone throughout their writing. At other times, the tone can drastically change depending on how their emotions are. The tone can change, and the reader realizes the essay writer was scared or worried, depressed, anxious, or excited. It is important for the essay writer to learn how to keep their tone constant. Depending on the type of essay they are writing, sometimes it might help to vary the tone.
The body language
It is true the reader will never physically see the essay writer’s body language. However, it is possible to see their body language in their writing. Physically, body language means what can be seen. The inner state of a person cannot be seen unless they express it in speaking, writing, or actions.
By looking at the person on their face, it is easy to tell if they are scared, fearful, at peace, or confused. It starts with emotions which progresses to feelings and then reactions.
For example, an essay writer can write something like, “I was terribly sweating.” This shows the writer was likely feeling scared. Their body can also feel warm if they are embarrassed. If they write and say their heart was beating fast, it is an expression that they were angry or fearful. The body responds to the inner state of an individual. The responses are seen by the way the body reacts.
An essay writer’s point of view or perspective can tell their inner state. An essay writer may decide to use the first person, second person, or third-person perspective. The perspective they choose tells a lot about their message. It affects the tone and the reader’s perception of their writing.
For example, using “I” in essay writing shows the direct connection writers have with another person or situation. If they are addressing a person who made them angry, they can write something like, “You made me feel angry.” The statement shows the blame on the other person. It makes them feel shameful or guilty.
The essay writer may address the same feeling to the person but in a different way. They can write something like, “I felt angry when you criticized my writing.” The first statement shows the essay writer was angry at the time of writing. The second statement shows there was a time factor, and the writer had to some degree, healed.
The statements can also show the essay writer’s temperament. When they write, the essay reader will easily tell who the person is in terms of how they have learned to control their emotions. If the inner state of the essay writer is worse, their choice of writing perspective will be different.
Sentence flow and construction
If an essay writer is writing when they are very angry, the structure flow will tell. An essay starts with an introduction that explains what the essay is about. The body argues out the points, and the conclusion sums up the essay. The paragraphs flow should not be confusing.
When the writer is angry, scared, or depressed, the paragraph flow will likely look confusing. They might write about one thing in the previous paragraph and then suddenly focus on an entirely different thing in the next paragraph. When the writer is at peace with their inner being, their writing style will reveal it. Their essay will be well organized, and each paragraph will flow smoothly into the next.
