CBD in Europe, and can I travel with CBD oil?

by Cherie McCord

Travelling with a bottle of CBD oil is legal in some countries, while not in others. At the same time, specific sites only legalized certain classes of CBD with some restrictions.

You should know that CBD is legal in Europe and the UK, but specific rules can apply in each country. If you want to learn more about CBD’s legal status … click here!

Anxiety: how does CBD influence when flying with CBD oil?

In short, this is one of the most effective solutions to calm anxiety, and of course, the fear of flying.

On every trip, medicines are a priority when assembling the suitcase. However, what if we seek is a natural option like CBD instead of traditional drugs? Could we take it on the trip, or would we have problems with security checks?

Furthermore, where you live, you may not access a good quality CBD oil, and you want to bring a good supply from your holiday spot. But will they stop you at the airport?

These are all questions you need to consider. But, unfortunately, in many countries, the CBD is in a grey zone. It means that its legality depends on the product, the place of departure, and the destination.

The legality of CBD in Europe

To travel by plane from one European country to another, you will need to check the regulations in both countries. Similarly, in case the flight is with stopovers, it will be necessary for you to check the restrictions in force in the places where you must wait for the next flight.

Except for Slovakia, in almost all European countries, CBD-based products are legal. The main reason Europe has decriminalized CBD has been the WHO announcement regarding its therapeutic benefits.

Similarly, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) classified CBD products within a section I of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961. Consequently, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products has established that the production, import, export, sale, possession, and use of cannabidiol products is limited to medicinal and scientific uses.

On the other hand, to bring CBD products into the European Union, it is essential to consider the percentage of THC admitted. As an example, in the United Kingdom, the laws approve the transport and use of CBD with a THC percentage of less than 0.2%

Travelling with CBD oil to the United States: What regulations are there?

A few years ago, in 2018, the Hemp Cultivation Law was passed in the United States. Through it, hemp products with a THC percentage lower than 0.3% were excluded from the list of controlled substances. Thus, CBD oil is legal at the federal level.

Although, it might still be illegal in the various states.

However, since much air travel crosses state lines, federal law governs. It includes the TSA (Transportation Security

Administration) rules. Currently, this entity’s website details that it is prohibited to transport CBD oil on flights. There is even no exception that allows you to apply for a special permit to travel with cannabidiol oil.

In other words, according to the law passed in 2018, you could travel with CBD oil obtained from hemp. But, instead, travelling with CBD oil derived from marijuana could cause problems.

Recommendations for travelling with CBD oil to the United States

If you are thinking of taking a trip to the United States and want to bring your bottle of CBD oil, here are some recommendations:

Don’t carry a lot of cannabidiol oil.

Select a CBD oil whose label clarifies that it was made from hemp. It is also essential that the label details a THC percentage of less than 0.3%.

If you have a medical prescription for CBD oil, it would be ideal if you take it with you or carry a copy.

Do not carry cans with more than 100 ml.

Place your bottle of CBD, along with all your other liquid products (creams, shampoo, serum, among others), in an airtight and transparent bag.

Be sure to print a copy of the 2018 Hemp Growing Law.

Conclusion

Different studies have already confirmed the anxiolytic properties of CBD. For this reason, people should have the right to carry this natural remedy during their travels, regardless of destination.

Even if the CBD oil is legal in the UK and Europe, you should not be travelling with CBD products to avoid any problem at the customs!
